Irish Soda Bread

You would like to make bread on your own, but do not have that much time for making a yeast dough? Well, why not try Irish soda bread?

What you need is:

4 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 egg
1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Ok, the following steps are really easy. Mix all the dry ingredients. Rub in the butter (you can mix it in as well). Add egg and buttermilk and mix until combined. Place the dough into a greased and floured baking pan (about 24 cm). Bake on 200°C for 15 minutes, reduce heat to 175°C and go on baking for another 40 minutes. Leave it to cool down.

It tastes better when cooled down completely, preferably the next day :)  It is sooo yummie with any kind of jam!
