Party buffet details

Today, there are some new pictures from my last birthday buffet. As soon as I finish last year's projects there will be two wedding cakes and more new recipes, so have fun :)

So, here we go:

Pumpkin Cheesecake Squares:

Chocolate cake, layered with chocolate cream, covered with marzipan and cocoa powder. The cream was really easy to make because it only consists of crème fraîche and melted dark chocolate. It is not too sweet, but you can add some sugar if you like.
I kept the remaining cream in a jar and served it for breakfast. A friend of mine, who is allergic to hazel nuts and thus cannot eat most of the chocolate spread you can buy around here, loved it :)

Chequerboard strawberry vanilla cake:

... covered in clotted cream and decorated with fondant flowers.

Almond Victoria Sponge decorated with powdered sugar, cherry preserve and marzipan cutouts.

Here is the usual pumpkin pie I love to bake, but this time it comes covered in clotted cream an decorated with sugar sprinkles. Right next to it there are mini versions of the pie, since I had some leftover dough and filling.

Pumpkin mascarpone something... Actually, this is only fillings and creams with a bit of gelatin to firm it up. A mascarpone cream sandwiched by pumpkin pie filling, decorated with mini-oreos and chocolate figures.

No cake, but creamy yumminess.

Linzer Cookies

A classic. Linzer Cookies. This time we, which is K. and me, did not use red currant preserve, but self-made mulled wine preserve.

What you need is:

  • the cookies
  • the preserve

We made hazelnut cookies, although you can also use other nuts, or even classic sugar cookies, if you prefer those.

As for the preserve, any kind will do, although it is traditionally red currant, as far as I know.

Since ours were a teensy bit too long in the oven, we covered them in icing sugar :)

Ralf's Birthday

Here is my father in law's birthday cake. Actually, 'only' an apple cake ;) Oh, by the way... That was in October... last year... So, next month there will be another 'father in law's birthday cake'-post ;)

Apples cut into pieces and cooked with sugar and cinnamon... Yummie...

Aples put on the cake...

The baked part of the thing...

Cake reade, wine-cream ready... Waiting for the apples to cool down...

And finally the third layer, aka the wine-cream.

Well, sometimes I cannot do without decoration... ;)

Put marzipan around, cut out shapes from remaining marzipan and cover those with cocoa powder.

Maybe I should have left out the last step? Well, it was yummie, nevertheless :)

Red Velvet Mascarpone Cupcake

Cupcakes for my choir. Actually, they had a mascarpone cream cheese topping, but I wanted the frosting to be fresh, so I put it on shortly before we had to go to church, so I forgot to take pictures again...

So, today the first picture is some batter in silicone and paper muffin caps.

Odd colour for muffin batter, isn't it? o.O

Out of the oven :)

Breads

After a long while of not having blogged, I will start with some bread I made the past half year...

Starting with some Irish Soda Bread

Honey Wheat Bread

Oat Bread

I've tried some sour dough bread as well, but after some weeks my starter became... well... it started to smell not-sour-dough-like... *eek* Maybe I'll start another one somewhen :)
